If things do go wrong:
Stay Calm
Take time to recap what you know, what happened and where you are,
If needed relocate to close, safe location, covered from the wind and try to stay warm.
If You have phone coverage
Call for help: Dial 999 or 112
You will get through to an Emergency Service Operator who will ask you whether you require Gardaí, Fire brigade or an Ambulance
Request An Garda Síochána (Police)
Then ask for Mountain Rescue and provide your details, location and the nature of the emergency.
As soon as the task is assigned to the Mountain Rescue, a team member will call you back and send you a message with the location finder file.
If You have no phone coverage:
Send preferably two people to higher ground to seek for phone network
Send preferably two people for help with details of your location (Six-figure Grid Reference).
Never leave the casualty alone unless absolutely necessary to signal for help.
When waiting for the Mountain Rescue Team
Depending on your location and situation, it may be 2 hours or much more before a First Response team from Mountain Rescue reaches you and probably much more time will be needed to complete the rescue.
Use Shelter and Bivvy / Survival bags
Use any extra clothing to keep warm
Try insulate yourself from the ground (seat on backpack).
Take care of your casualty to your best ability and knowledge.
Save the phone battery, switch off Bluetooth, and do not use phone unless really needed.
